March 5th, 6:00 – 7:30 – Featuring European Wines by Winemaker Dave Phinney

Reservations:  214.716.2612 or [email protected] or

WHO: Dave Phinney maneuvered his way into working the harvest at Robert Mondavi (in 1997) then worked his way up the wine chain in that vinous holy of holies. The very next year, he started his own Napa Valley brand (Orin Swift Cellars) and wisely made his first act the purchase of some terrific Napa Valley grapes, although he wasn’t sure what he was going to do with them.  Soon he figured it out…creating a rich, seductive, run-away best selling wine called The Prisoner (an unusual blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Syrah, and Charbono).  Phinney sold Orin Swift Cellars and his other wine brands and assets for a cool $300 million, with an eight-year non compete agreement preventing him from making another delectable Zin blend. (Read more HERE).  But the “sentence” is up and Phinney today produces wines from vineyards he owns in four European countries ( France, Italy, Spain, and Greece)… AND…he now works for Orin Swift (the company he founded…which he had sold to E.J. Gallo).  Join us in sampling and celebrating Dave Phinney’s European wines!

Later this year, we will be sampling Phinney’s aptly named 8 Years in the Desert, which marked the end of his 8-year restriction.

Currently, the venture that takes up much of Phinney’s precious time is Savage & Cooke, a distillery he founded,  set between San Francisco and Napa Valley, producing four spirit labels…but on track to becoming one of the most important distilleries in the United States.
